After the release of “Episode IV: A New Hope” movie in 1977, the Star Wars saga became a pop culture phenomenon. The franchise has seen the participation of several actors and creatives from different parts of the world, including, of course, Latinos. 

This and every May 4 — the celebration of Star Wars Day — of the year is the perfect excuse to highlight the work Latinos have done as part of this worldwide known multimedia franchise that has brought happiness to many. 

So, without further ado, here’s every Latino in the saga.

Jimmy Smits 

Smits is an American actor of Puerto Rican and Surinamese descent. He portrays Bail Organa in “Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” 

Benicio Del Toro 

Benicio Del Toro was born in San Germán, Puerto Rico, but moved to the United States when he was young. Del Toro plays the role of DJ in “Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.” 

Freddie Prinze, Jr.

You might remember Prinze, Jr. from his role as Fred in the Scooby Doo movies. However, this Puerto Rican, German, English, and Irish descent actor had the opportunity to give voice to the character of Kanan Jarrus in “Rebels – Recon Missions,” Star Wars: Rebels, and “Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.” 

Diego Luna 

Diego Luna is a Mexican actor born in Mexico City, Mexico, that has given life to Cassian Andor in “Rogue One,” “Secrets of the Empire,” and the “Andor “TV series. 

Lupita Nyong’o 

Lupita Nyong’o was born in Mexico City, Mexico, to Kenyan parents. The Latino actress has her own space in the franchise by portraying the character of Maz Kanata in “The Adventures Continue,” “Episode VII – The Force Awakens,” “Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Episode VIII – The Last Jedi,” “Forces of Destiny TV” series, and “Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.” 

Pablo Hidalgo 

Pablo Hidalgo is a Latino actor born in Santiago de Chile, Chile. He has been a creative executive in several movies, video games, and series of the saga, which includes “Episode VII – The Force Awakens,” “Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Rogue One,” “Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series – Episode II & III,” “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” and “Andor,” among others. 

Oscar Isaac 

Oscar Isaac was born in Guatemala to a Guatemalan mother and a Cuban father. The actor plays the role of Poe Dameron in Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, “Episode VII — The Force Awakens,” “Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Episode VIII — The Last Jedi,” “Resistance,” “Rise of the Resistance,” and “Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker.” 

Verónica Segura 

Segura is a Mexican actress born in Mexico City, Mexico. She gives life to Cordé in “Episode II — Attack of the Clones.” 

Rosario Dawson

Rosario Dawson was born in New York City, NY, to a mother of Puerto Rican and Afro-Cuban descent. The actress portrays the character of Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. 

Pedro Pascal

Pedro Pascal is a Chilean actor and another Latino who’s also part of the saga as Din Djarin — known as The Mandalorian — in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. 

Adria Arjona 

Adria Arjona is an actress born in Puerto Rico and raised in Mexico City. The Latina secured her spot in the saga by playing the character of Bix Caleen in the Andor TV series. 

Gina Torres 

Gina Torres was born in New York City, NY, in a Cuban-American family. The actress gives life to Ketsu Onyo in Star Wars: Forces of Destiny and Star Wars: Rebels 

Danny Trejo 

You might recognize him for his role in Machete, but this Latino legend also participates in the Star Wars saga by portraying the Rancor Keeper in The Book of Boba Fett. 

Myrna García Velasco 

Myrna Velasco is a Mexican-American actress that gives life to Torra Doza in the TV series Star Wars Resistance.
